Beat the heat and make your own homemade snow cones! In just a few easy steps, you can have the perfect cool-down treat for any summertime gathering.

Ingredients

Homemade Snow Cone Syrup

  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 1 package unsweetened Kool-Aid (any flavor)

Snow Cones

  • Blender
  • Ice
  • Squeeze bottles
  • Paper Ice Cream Cups

Instructions

  1. The recipe for Homemade Snow Cone Syrup is very straightforward - it is basically simple syrup and Kool-aid powder.  Pour the sugar and water into a medium saucepan and bring it to a boil, stirring occasionally to get the sugar dissolved in the water.
  2. Turn down the heat and let the simple syrup mixture simmer for 3 minutes.
  3. Add a package of Unsweetened Kool-Aid and stir until well mixed.
  4. Let the syrup cool and then store it in the refrigerator.
  5. We poured our Homemade Snow Cone Syrup into plastic squeeze bottles that we found on Amazon and stored them in the refrigerator.
  6. We crushed our ice in a blender and it turned out great.  This blender had a "Crush Ice" setting so we used that.
  7. We pre-crushed the ice a few days before the party and stored it in the freezer in plastic ziplock bags.  During the party, and right before we served the homemade snow cones we quickly ran the crushed ice through the blender a second time to fluff and freshen it up. The consistency was perfect.  We didn't need a special snow cone machine after all.
  8. For the party, we placed all the crushed ice in a punch bowl with ice cream scoops so that everyone could make their own snow cone!
  9. Put the crushed ice out with some paper ice cream bowls and the homemade syrup and you are ready to go.  At our summertime parties, there are always a lot of "unique" flavor combinations! But this is why Homemade Snow Cones are such a great (and easy to prepare) idea for any party on a hot summer day!
