Get ready to tantalize your taste buds with a batch of delicious homemade Caramel Rice Krispie Treats! Just four simple ingredients are needed to make this crowd-pleasing treat that your family will beg you to make again and again.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Butter (We use Salted Sweet Cream Butter)
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 8 cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 8 cups Rice Krispie Cereal

Instructions

  1. Add the butter and the brown sugar to a medium saucepan on low heat.
  2. While the butter is melting, continuously stir the mixture until the brown sugar is completely incorporated with the butter.  If there is a layer of melted butter on the surface of the mixture continue mixing. The brown sugar and butter WILL come together, you need to give it some time.  If you skip this step, your caramel mixture may turn out grainy.
  3. When the butter and sugar have thoroughly combined, increase the temperature to medium-low heat and continue to stir.  You want need enough heat to bring the caramel mixture to a slow boil but you don't want it to burn. When you have bubbles across the top of the surface of the caramel sauce, stop stirring.
  4. Allow the mixture to cook for 4 more minutes without stirring.
  5. Give the caramel mixture a stir and return the heat back to low.
  6. Add the mini marshmallows to the caramel mixture.
  7. Stir until the marshmallows and melted and thoroughly combined with the caramel sauce.
  8. Take the pan off the heat and add the Rice Krispie Cereal.  Fold the cereal in with the caramel mixture.
  9. Pour the warm Caramel Rice Krispie Treat mixture into a buttered 9x13" pan.
  10. Pat the mixture into the pan, and smooth out the top.
  11. Cool before cutting into bars. Enjoy!

Notes

Storing/Freezing Instructions
Rice Krispie Treats will last 2-3 days at room temperature in an air-tight container before they start to get stale.  You can extend that timeline a few days if you store them in the refrigerator and then take them out about 30 minutes before you eat them.  They freeze up great though and that is what we do if we want to make these ahead of time for a party or a family gathering.  They defrost very quickly and taste great once they are defrosted.  You can keep them in the freezer for up to a couple of months.
