Instructions

  1. For each character (Elmo, Oscar the Grouch, and Cookie Monster you will need to make a 3 cup batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (3 Tbsp. Butter/3 Cups Marshmallows/3 Cups Cereal).  You can find detailed directions on how to make our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe here.
  2. To tint the Rice Krispie Treat mixture, add the food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture BEFORE you add the Rice Krispie Treats. For the Cookie Monster Rice Krispie Treat mixture, we used 5 drops of Wilton Color Right Blue Food Coloring. For the Oscar the Grouch Rice Krispie Treat mixture we used 6 drops of yellow food coloring and 3 drops of blue food coloring. For the Elmo Rice Krispie Treat mixture we used 6 drops of Wilton Color Right Red Food Coloring.
  3. Let the mixture cool for 2-3 minutes and then pour the Rice Krispie Treat mixture onto a lightly buttered 8×8″ pan.
  4. Press the Rice Krispie mixture evenly into the pan and let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Pop the sheet of Rice Krispie Treats out of the pan and cut it into six rectangular pieces.
  6. To Decorate the Elmo Face: To make the Elmo Face, start with two Wilton Bright White Candy Melts.  We used a little bit of black icing on the back as “glue”.  Press the candy melts, top side down into the top part of the Rice Krispie Treat. Add an orange Peanut M&M for Elmo’s nose. For Elmo’s mouth, cut one chocolate wafer from an Oreo in half and place it directly under Elmo’s M&M nose. Finally, use your Black icing to create two eyes in the center of the candy melts.
  7. To Decorate the Cookie Monster Face: To make the Cookie Monster Face, start with two Wilton Bright White Candy Melts.  We used a little bit of black icing on the back as “glue”.  Press the candy melts, top side down into the top part of the Rice Krispie Treat. For Cookie Monster’s mouth, cut a Mini Chips Ahoy cookie in half, place a small dot of black icing on the cut edge of the cookie and then place the cookie onto the Rice Krispie Treat. Finally, for Cookie Monster's eyes, use the black icing to make some offset, "googly" eyeballs.
  8. To Decorate the Oscar the Grouch Face: Oscar the Grouch may be grumpy but he is also super adorable! For Oscar's face, use the white candy melts for the eyes - top side down. Oscar's mouth is half of an Oreo chocolate wafer. Use the black icing for Oscar's eyeballs. Oscar's unibrow is made with chocolate frosting.  And you'll need the tiniest bit of red icing for Oscar's tongue.
