Candy Cane Cookies

Melt-in-you-mouth butter cookies, flavored with peppermint and in the colorful shape of a candy cane, these Candy Cane Cookies are a classic Christmas cookie that never disappoints.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour

Instructions

  1. Add the softened butter to the mixing bowl.
  2. Mix butter until it is soft and creamy.
  3. Add the Powdered Sugar and then cream the sugar and butter until it is light and fluffy (2-3 minutes.)
  4. Add in the egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract.
  5. Add in the flour and the salt and mix just until combined.
  6. Divide the dough into two equal portions.
  7. Color one portion red and leave the other portion white.
  8. For each candy cane, measure .8 oz of dough and roll it into a 6" rope.  Twist the ropes around each other and shape into a candy cane shape.
  9. Place the candy cane cookies on a prepared cookie sheet.
  10. Bake cookies in an oven pre-heated to 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
  11. Cool on a cooling rack.
