How to Make Brown Butter

Cook Time 8 minutes
Total Time 8 minutes

Brown Butter is super delicious in both sweet and savory recipes and is so easy to make at home, we have all the directions you'll need to make it perfectly each and every time.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup Butter (Sweet Cream Salted Butter)

Instructions

  1. Cut the butter into cubes and place in a large saucepan set at medium-high heat.
  2. Allow the butter to melt.  It will start to sputter, this is the water cooking out of the butter.
  3. Once the butter starts to foam use a heat resistant spatula to stir constantly.
  4. Brown bits will begin to form at the bottom of the pan.  This is the final stage.  Stir so that you can see the bottom of the pan so you will know when the butter starts to brown.
  5. All the favor is in the browned bits in the bottom of the pan.  You will begin to smell a nutty buttery flavor and the brown bits will be sitting on the bottom of the pan.  The whole process should take 5-8 minutes. Take the butter off the heat and pour it into another bowl or container to cool.  Make sure you get all of the brown bits of butter!

Notes

Note about the amount of brown butter: Some of the butter evaporates during the process of browning the butter so if you need 1 cup of Brown Butter for your recipe you will need to start with 1 1/4 cup of butter.
