These Valentine's Day M&M Cookies are the perfect mix of a brownie-like cookie with festive Valentine's colored M&M's.  Your family will love them!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (Sweet Cream, Salted - softened)
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2/3 cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 1/4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2/3 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 bag Valentine's Mix M&M's

Instructions

  1. Add the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda to a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients and set aside.
  3. Cream together the butter and white and brown sugars.
  4. Add the eggs and the vanilla to the bowl.
  5. Beat until light and fluffy.
  6. Add in the dry ingredients 1 cup at a time.
  7. Mix just until the flour mixture is incorporated into the dough.  Do not overmix once you have added the flour.  That will make for a tough dry cookie.
  8. To keep the cookies similar in size, measure 1.8 oz. of dough for each cookie on a food scale. Roll the dough into balls and put them on a prepared cookie sheet.
  9. Randomly press the M&M’s onto the cookie dough ball. This will allow the colorful M&M’s to show up on the top of the baked cookies. You need to cover the entire cookie dough ball with M&M's or when they back you will end up with a big chocolate cookie with only a couple of M&M's in the middle of it.
  10. Bake the cookies in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes.
  11. Allow to completely cool before you store them.

Notes

Cracked M&M's?  Don’t worry about any cracked M&M’s. This happens when the M&M candies start to cool when you take them out of the oven – totally normal.  The cookies still taste great and the cracks give them character!

Storage/Freezing Tips:  These cookies should be stored in an airtight container.  And they will stay fresh longer if they are completely cool before you pack them up.  We usually add a layer of parchment paper between each row of cookies in our plastic container.  They will stay fresh at room temperature for 2-3 days if you store them correctly in an air-tight container. They will last up to 3 months in the freezer.
