Our Valentine's Day Rice Krispie Treats are fun, festive, easy to make and will be a big hit at your Valentine's Day family dinner or school Valentine's party.

Ingredients

  • Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Cereal
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Butter (Sweet Cream, Salted)
  • Wilton Color Right Food Coloring
  • Heart Cookie Cutters - 2 different sizes

Instructions

  1. For each color batch, you will need 3 tablespoons of butter, 3 cups of marshmallows, and 3 cups of Rice Krispies Cereal.   Melt the butter in a large pan on medium heat.  Add the marshmallows and stir until melted.
  2. For the White batch, mix in the 3 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal to the marshmallow mixture without adding any food coloring.
  3. For the Pink batch, add pink food coloring to the marshmallow mixture BEFORE you add in the Rice Krispie Cereal. Then mix in the cereal until it is completely covered with marshmallow mixture.
  4. For the Red batch, add red food coloring to the marshmallow mixture before you add the Rice Krispie cereal.
  5. Once the mixture had cooled slightly fill the large heart cookie cutters with Rice Krispie mixture.
  6. Pop the treat out of the cookie cutter and make another one until you run out of the mixture.
  7. Using the smaller heart cookie cutter, make a heart cut-out in the middle of the large heart Rice Krispie Treats.
  8. Now switch the cut-outs.  The Rice Krispie Treat Valentines are sticky from the marshmallows so you will be able to push the shapes back together.

Notes

For us, 3 cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture made 3 large heart Rice Krispie Treats but your yield will depend on the size of your cookie cutters.

Tips for Coloring Rice Krispie Treat mixture:
Add the food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture BEFORE you add the Rice Krispie Cereal.  To get this color of Red we used 8 drops of Crimson Wilton Color Right Food Coloring and 1 drop of Red.  To get a pretty color of soft pink we added 2 drops of Pink Wilton Color Right Food Coloring to the marshmallow mixture before adding the Rice Krispie Cereal.

Storing/Freezing Instructions:
Store the Rice Krispie Treats in an airtight container and they will last for 3-4 days before they start to get to stale.  You can freeze them for up to 3 months.
