Ingredients

  • 12 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 12 cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 12 tablespoons Butter (Sweet Cream, Salted)
  • Wilton Color Right Food Coloring
  • Leaf Cookie Cutter

Instructions

  1. The base for our Fall Leaves Rice Krispie Treats is our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe which we have adjusted and perfected over the years until it is now absolutely the best Rice Krispie Treat recipe we have ever tasted.  You can find all the directions you’ll need to make these delicious treats right here.
  2. We made our Rice Krispie Treats in four different Fall colors … Orange, Gold, Green, and Brown.  You will need to make four different batches of Rice Krispie Treats, one for each color.  Each batch is a 3 cup batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture.  Add the food coloring BEFORE you add the Rice Krispie Cereal.
  3. For each color of Fall Leaf, you are going to make you should melt 3 Tablespoons of butter in a medium pan on medium heat.  Add 3 cups of Mini Marshmallows and stir them until they are melted.  Now add the food coloring.  Once you have the right color, add 3 cups of Rice Krispie cereal. Gently fold the marshmallow mixture and Rice Krispies until all of the cereal is completely covered with the melted butter and marshmallow mixture.
  4. You will need a leaf cookie cutter.  You can find them in the Baking section of your local craft store or on Amazon which is where we bought this Maple Leaf Cookie Cutter. Make one colored batch at a time.  Allow the Rice Krispie Treat mixture to cool enough so you can handle it but that it is still malleable.  Start filling the leaf cookie cutter to form the maple leaf treats. We like molding the mixture into the cookie cutters this way instead of making a sheet of Rice Krispie Treats and cutting out the shapes like a traditional cookie. You will have smoother and prettier edges this way.
  5. Once you have the cookie-cutter filled with the Rice Krispie Treat mixture, press the Rice Krispie Treat out the back of the cookie cutter and make another one.  I was able to make 4 Rice Krispie Treats from this 3 cup batch of Rice Krispie Treat Mixture because of the size of cookie cutters we were using.
  6. Then make the other batches of Rice Krispie mixture and makes those leaves. Allow the Rice Krispie Treats to cool before you store them. This is a great Fall or Thanksgiving treat and you can make them well ahead.  Rice Krispie Treats freeze up great in an air-tight container. And will last for up to a week at Room Temperature.
