How cute are these Sunshine Rice Krispie treats? We made Ombre Rice Krispie Treats for my daughter’s Frozen themed birthday party a couple years, and Laurie and I have been talking about redoing them in a different color ever since. We had a hard time deciding and finally settled on yellow. They turned out amazing and are even more beautiful in person. If you are looking for an easy and delicious dessert for any occasion, look no further than these Sunshine Rice Krispie Treats.
The base for our Sunshine Rice Krispie Treats is our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe which we have adjusted and perfected over the years until it is now absolutely the best Rice Krispie Treat recipe we have ever tasted. You can all the directions you’ll need to make these delicious treats right here.
For each batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture I used 2 tablespoons of Butter, 2 Cups of Mini Marshmallows and 2 Heaping Cups of Rice Krispie Cereal. For detailed instructions on how to make the Rice Krispie Treat mixture, check out our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe. I added the food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture BEFORE adding the Rice Krispie Cereal. We used the Yellow food coloring from the Wilton Color Right Food Coloring system in the following amounts:
Top Layer = No Food Coloring
Light Yellow = 1 drop of Yellow Food Coloring
Medium Yellow = 2 drops of Yellow Food Coloring
Dark Yellow = 6 drops of Yellow Food Coloring
To give our Sunshine Rice Krispie Treats this pretty Ombre effect, I made four 2 cup batches of Rice Krispie Treat mixture – 3 yellow batches (see food coloring amounts above) and 1 batch with no food coloring. I flatten the mixture into a large cookie sheet in rows as shown above, each row was about 4 inches wide.
Once all four batches had been finished, I stacked the layers with darkest yellow color on the bottom and the regular colored layer on the top.
After the Rice Krispie Treat layers had completely cooled. I cut the ombre Rice Krispie Treat loaf into individual slices with a sharp knife.
That’s all there is to it. These Sunshine Rice Krispie Treats are so easy to make and homemade Rice Krispie Treats are always a crowd favorite. These yellow ombre treats are like a burst of sunshine on a plate and they will look so beautiful on any dessert table.
