Step 1: Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a mixer.  Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until fluffy.  Add the Baking Soda and salt and mix. Add the flour a bit at a time and mix until it is completely incorporated. Separate the cookie dough into four equal portions. (We used a food scale but you can eyeball it if you don’t have one.)

Step 2: Color the portions of cookie dough yellow, pink, purple, and blue.  We used Wilton Color Right food coloring to color the cookie dough. Here are the combinations that we used:

Yellow – 3 drops of Yellow
Purple – 3 drops of Pink and 1 drop of Blue
Blue – 3 drops of Yellow
Pink – 3 drops of Pink

Four white bowls filled with yellow, purple, teal and pink cookie dough.

Step 3: Add 1/4 of the bag of chocolate chips to each portion of cookie dough and stir until combined.

Baking Instructions

Colorful ball of chocolate chip cookie dough on a food scale surrounded by white bowls filled with pink, yellow, purple and teal cookie dough.

Step 4: Using a food scale, we measured 2.0 oz. of cookie dough for each cookie. We randomly added pieces of yellow, purple, blue, and pink cookie dough to the food scale until it weighed 2 ounces.  Sometimes we used more of one color than the others. There is no right or wrong combination. The more random the pieces of dough, the prettier the cookies will be.

Step 5: Add the marble cookie dough balls to a prepared cookie sheet and slightly press the cookie balls down onto the cookie sheet.
Step 6: Bake in an oven preheated to 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.

Expert Tips & FAQs

Food Coloring Tips
We use the Wilton Color Right Food Coloring.  We think it gives you a really vibrant color without having to add so many drops of food coloring.  You can also use the base colors to make any color in the rainbow which is helpful.  In general, the food coloring will fade during the baking process so if you want a really bright vibrant color in the finished marble cookie, you need to make sure the cookie dough is VERY bright and colorful.  Also, you need to be careful about overmixing cookie dough after you add the flour so try not to over-stir the dough when you are adding the food coloring. We find that the quickest way to add the food coloring to the dough is to use the mixer.  A couple of rotations of the mixing paddle should do it. You have to wash the mixing bowl and paddles after each color which is a pain but it is worth it to make sure you don’t overmix the dough.

How long will the cookies stay fresh?
Easter Chocolate Chip Cookies should be stored in an airtight container. They will stay fresh longer if they are completely cool before you pack them up.  We usually add a layer of parchment paper between each row of cookies in our plastic container. The cookies will be fresh for 2-3 days at room temperature. If you want them to last longer, you should freeze them. They will be fine in the freezer for 2-3 months.
