How to Color the Rice Krispie Mixture
Step 2: You need to make three batches of Rice Krispie Treat mixture, one black, and two red. You will add the food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture BEFORE adding the Rice Krispie Cereal. We use Wilton Color Right Food Coloring. It creates very vibrant colors without having to use a lot of food coloring. Here are the Food Coloring Formulas we used:
Black Layer (for the Santa Belt)
3 Cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (3 Tbsp. Butter/3 Cups Marshmallows/3 Cups Cereal)
5 Drops of Black Food Coloring
2 Drops of Blue Food Coloring
2 Drops of Red Food Coloring
Red Layer (bottom section of Santa Coat)
3 Cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (3 Tbsp. Butter/3 Cups Marshmallows/3 Cups Cereal)
5 Drops of Crimson Food Coloring
2 Drop of Red Food Coloring
Red Layer (top section of Santa Coat)
6 Cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (6 Tbsp. Butter/6 Cups Marshmallows/6 Cups Cereal)
10 Drops of Crimson Food Coloring
4 Drop of Red Food Coloring
Assembly Instructions
Step 3: Pour the first batch of the Rice Krispie Treat mixture into a lightly buttered large cookie sheet. Press down the mixture into the cookie sheet. It should be about 6″ wide. The height should be about 1″. Make the 3 cup batch of red Rice Krispie Treat mixture. Pour into the cookie sheet. This strip should be the same dimensions as the black strip.
Step 4: And finally repeat the process with the second 6 cup batch of red Rice Krispie Treat mixture. This strip should be the same width and length as the first two but should be twice as high. Allow the three strips to cool for 10-15 minutes.
Step 5: Remove the Black and Red Rice Krispie Treat strips from the cookie sheet and stack them. The short red strip on the bottom, black in the middle and the taller red on the top.
Step 6: Slice the Rice Krispie Treat loaf into 1″ slices.
Step 7: Cut the slice in half.
Step 8: We trimmed the edges a bit so we had an even rectangle.
Step 9: We used Wilton Decorating Icing to make the Santa Belt buckle.
Step 10: That’s all there is to it to making these adorable Santa Claus Rice Krispie Treats. Allow them to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
