Some people call it a vintage recipe but we call it a classic dessert. This is our Great Grandmother’s recipe for Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler. And it is one of our all-time favorites. Peaches baked with Cinnamon and a tasty cake-like topping hot out of the oven, what could be better? If you can’t find fresh peaches, you can substitute frozen or canned. Easy Peasy. It’s called comfort food for a reason. Enjoy!
Ingredients You Will Need
How to Prepare the Peaches
Step 1: Peel and dice fresh peaches. Put peaches in a bowl and add granulated sugar and set aside.
How to Make the Batter
Step 2: In another bowl add flour, sugar, and baking soda. Mix together with a whisk.
Step 3: Add milk to the flour mixture along with a slightly beaten egg
Step 4: Mix together with a whisk. Do not use beaters to mix together so you don’t add too much air to the batter.
Assembly Instructions
Steps 5-6: Melt the butter and pour it into a 9×13″ baking dish.
Steps 7-8: Pour the batter mixture into the pan. Do not mix the melted butter and batter together. You can even out the batter if it is uneven.
Steps 11-12: Spoon the peaches over the batter. Any leftover peach juice can be poured over the peaches. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the peaches.
Baking Instructions
Steps 13-14: Bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 60 minutes. The top should be golden brown when it is done.
Expert Tips and FAQ’s
Yes, you can use canned or frozen peaches for this recipe. You should adjust the sugar you add to the peaches depending on the type of peaches that you use. Canned peaches (in heavy sugar) do not need any extra sugar added. Frozen peaches might need up to 3/4 cup of sugar.
We do not recommend using very ripe peaches. They will make the cobbler overly mushy.

- 1/2 cup Butter (Sweet Cream Salted)
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 3/4 cup Milk
- 2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 6 peaches
- 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
Instructions
- Peel and dice fresh peaches.
- Put peaches in a bowl and add 3/4 cup sugar. Set aside.
- In another bowl add flour, sugar, and baking soda. Mix together with whisk.
- Add milk to flour mixture and slightly beaten egg. Mix together with whisk. Do not use beaters to mix together.
- Melt butter and pour melted butter into 9x13 pan.
- Pour batter mixture into 9x13 pan. Do not mix the melted butter and batter together. You can even out the batter if it is uneven.
- Spoon peaches over batter. Any leftover peach juice can be poured over the peaches.
- Sprinkle 2 tsp (or so) over the peaches.
- Bake In 350 oven for 1 hour. The top should be golden brown.
Notes
If you use unsalted butter, you should add 1/4 tsp of salt to the batter.
