Coloring the Rice Krispie Treat Mixture
Step 2: We made our Monster Eye Balls Rice Krispie Bites in three different Halloween colors … Green, Purple and Black. You will need to make three different batches of Rice Krispie Treats, one for each color. Each batch is a 2 cup batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (2 Tbsp. Butter/2 Cups Mini Marshmallows/2 Cups Cereal). Add the food coloring BEFORE you add the Rice Krispie Cereal.
To create this shade of Purple we used our Wilton Color Right Food coloring in the following combination:
4 Drops of Pink
1 Drops of Blue
1 Drops of Red
For the black Rice Krispie Treat Bites, we got this dark black color by using the following amounts of Wilton Color Right Food Coloring:
4 Drops of Black
For the green Rice Krispie Treat Bites, we got this spooky color of green by using the following amounts of Wilton Color Right Food Coloring:
4 Drops of Yellow
1 Drop of Blue
How to Make the Monster Eye Balls
Step 3: For each color of Rice Krispie Treat mixture, allow it to cool enough so you can handle it but that it is still malleable. To get Rice Krispie Bites that were the same sized I measured .7 oz. of the mixture on my food scale and then used my hands to roll it into a ball. If the mixture is too sticky, rub your fingers with some butter. I was able to make 11 Rice Krispie Treat Bites from this 2 cup batch of Rice Krispie Treat Mixture.
Step 4: Once you have created the Rice Krispie Treat ball – press a large Wilton Candy Eye into the ball. I used my hands to mold the Rice Krispie Treat mixture around the eyeball. If the Rice Krispie Treat mixture is still warm when it cools the Candy Eye will stick to the Monster Eyes Rice Krispie Bites.
Step 5: Allow the Monster Eye Balls to cool before you store them. This is a great Halloween treat and you can make it well ahead. Rice Krispie Treats freeze up great in an air-tight container.
