Mocha Cupcakes with Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting
We turn white cake mix into Mocha Cupcakes and then top them with our super yummy Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting. These Mocha Cupcakes with Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting are easy to make and delicious to eat. What could be better?
I love coffee. I drink it every day. Lots and lots of it. So it was a no-brainer for us to work on a cupcake recipe that is chock-filled with the delicious flavor of a creamy hot cup of coffee. The cupcake is coffee-flavored with just a hint of chocolate, just like any good Mocha Latte should be. And on top, a swirl of our creamy and delicious Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting. If you like a good cup of coffee, you’re gonna love this cupcake.
We used a White Cake Mix and Instant Coffee as the base for our Mocha Cupcakes. We like these Starbucks French Roast Instant Coffee packets which you can find in most grocery stores in the coffee aisle but you can use any brand that you like. Stir the instant coffee into the Milk until it is thoroughly mixed. You might need to let the milk rest in the refrigerator for a bit so that the instant coffee dissolves completely.
If you are having problems getting the instant coffee and the milk completely mixed, run the mixture through a finely gauged colander to filter out the un-dissolved coffee crystals.
Add the cake mix, coffee flavored milk, oil and egg yolks to the bowl and mix for two minutes.
Now add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.
Fill your cupcake liners 3/4 full with the Mocha Cupcakes batter and bake the cupcakes in a 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes.

We used a decorating bag and a Wilton 2D Decorating Tip to swirl on The Best Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting. You can see a video on how to make this frosting swirl right here. For the chocolate drizzle, place a handful of chocolate chips (we used Semi-Sweet) in a plastic bag. Heat them in the microwave until they are melted. Snip off a tiny corner of the plastic bag and use it to drizzle chocolate over the frosting swirls.
So pretty and so delicious!

Ingredients
- Pillsbury Moist Supreme White Cake Mix
- 1/2 cup Oil
- 1 cup Milk
- 3 Egg Yolks
- 1 packet of Starbuck's French Roast Instant Coffee
- 1/8 cup Cocoa Powder
- Handful of Chocolate Chips
- The Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting
- Pastry Bags
- Wilton 2D Decorating Tip
Instructions
- Stir the instant coffee into the Milk until it is thoroughly mixed.
- Add the cake mix, coffee flavored milk, oil and egg yolks to the bowl and mix for two minutes.
- Add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.
- Spoon cake mix into cupcake liners.
- Bake the cupcakes in a 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes.
- Make a batch of our The Best Coffee Whipped Cream Frosting.
- Add a swirl of the frosting to the cupcakes using a Wilton 2D Decorating Tip.
- Drizzle melted chocolate over the frosting swirl. (optional)
