Our Holiday Butter Cookies combines a classic butter cookie with food coloring and mini Christmas Cookie Cutters to make a truly Holiday-worthy Christmas Cookie that is going to wow your friends and family.

We made a Butter Cookie for Christmas and we loved it so much we decided to do another one a different way. We used a technique we tried with Rice Krispies and ended up with these colorful, fun and yummy Holiday Butter Cookies.  With only four ingredients, they couldn’t be easier to make and Butter Cookies are always a crowd-favorite.  So grab the cookie cutters and let’s make some Christmas cookies!

Mixing bowl filled with butter and powdered sugar

Add the butter and powdered sugar to a mixing bowl.

Cream until light and fluffy and then add the vanilla. Continue mixing until the vanilla is thoroughly combined.

Then add the flour one cup at a time and mix until combined. Easy peasy.  This cookie dough has only four ingredients but oh are these cookies yummy.

Two balls of Butter cookie dough

Separate the cookie dough into two portions.

Color one portion of the cookie dough Christmas Red and the other portion Christmas Green. We used Wilton Color Right Food Coloring.  Crimson for the Red and Yellow and Blue for the Green.  We have a post on how to get the brightest and best Christmas Colors, you can find it here.

We used mini Christmas Cookie Cutters for our cut-outs.  Using those as a guide, form a log with each of the portions of cookie dough. You need the log to be wide enough so you can make a cut-out with your cookie cutters.  Wrap the cookie dough logs in plastic wrap and then refrigerate it for at least one hour.

Take the dough logs out of the refrigerator and allow them to set for 15 minutes.

You want to cut slice of each color and they need to be the same thickness.  I used a piece of ribbon as a guide on where to make the cuts.  Once you have your slices, use a mini cookie cutter and cut out a shape from the cookie slice. Flip the cutouts and press them back into the cookie.  You now have a two-tone Holiday Butter Cookie!

Place the cookie dough slices on the cookie sheet.

Bake the Christmas Butter Cookies at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until set. Do not over bake.  If they start browning around the edges you have baked them too long and the cookies will be dry.

So pretty and colorful and Christmas-y.  And who doesn’t love a Butter Cookie?  It is a Christmas classic that we have dressed up for the Holidays!
