Glitter Sneakers
Awhile ago I made some Ombre Glitter Sneakers but I was never really happy with how they turned out. Recently, I saw a Pinterest Pin of Kate Spade Gold Glitter Sneakers. They were super pretty but come on, they cost $80!!! Time to drag out the glitter and Mod Podge.
How to Make Glitter Sneakers:
Project Supplies:
- Sneakers
- Silver Glitter (Fine)
- Mod Podge
- Small Crafting Paint Brush
- Painters Tape
- Black Ribbon
- Clear Nail Polish
First I bought a pair of white sneakers from Target for $16.
I used painter’s tape on the bottom rubber area of the shoe to protect it from stray glitter.
In a bowl, I mixed two tablespoons of Mod Podge with one tablespoon of glitter and mixed it together with my paint brush.
I painted on the first coat of glitter onto the shoes. As you can see the glitter is not going to completely cover the fabric in a single coat. Don’t worry about coverage at this point. Lightly brush on the first coat, and let it dry for at least 30 minutes before you apply the second coat.
And don’t forget to paint the shoe tongue.
Here is the Glitter Sneaker after a second coat. You can see that it is mostly covered at this point. My third coat was only touch ups in the few areas that were still not fully covered.
Here is the shoe after three coats of Glitter and Mod Podge.
The Kate Spade Glitter Sneakers inspiration shoes had a ribbon lace instead of regular shoe laces. I cut a black piece of ribbon the same length as the old white shoe laces. I made a diagonal cut on both ends of the ribbon and then coated the ends of the ribbon with Clear Nail Polish to keep the ribbon ends from fraying. You can see the nail polish in this close up picture but you can’t see it when I’m wearing the shoes.
And that is all there is to it.
Here is a side view of the shoe. I think it looks pretty close to the inspiration shoe if I don’t say so myself. And these cost less than $20 so now I’m ahead 60 bucks!
