Donut Popcorn
Donuts aren’t just for the morning anymore! Try a batch of our Donut Popcorn – salty popcorn covered in delicious homemade donut glaze and tossed with yummy pieces of Glazed Donut. Yum, yum, yum!
Glazed Donuts are delicious. Popcorn is delicious. How about Donut Popcorn? You probably won’t be surprised to hear that it is also delicious. And super easy to make. If you are looking for a special treat for that doughnut lover in your life … this is the recipe for you!
Start with approximately 10 cups of popcorn. Make sure you get out all of the un-popped kernels. You don’t want to bite down on one of those! We pop our popcorn on the stove (you can find our directions on How to Make Perfect Popcorn here) but you can use air-popped or microwave. Once you have the popcorn made, salt it liberally. It is so nice to taste the salty under the sweet glaze. Not quite like Kettle Corn but close.
To make the Donut Glaze, pour 4 tablespoons of milk and 3 teaspoons of vanilla into a saucepan. On medium-low heat gently warm the milk and vanilla mixture stirring often. When the milk is warm but not boiling take off the heat. Then slowly add 1 1/2 cups of sifted powdered sugar and stir until smooth.
Slowly pour the Donut Glaze over the salted popcorn – you will not need it all. We used approximately 1/4 cup of the glaze. Gently fold the glaze in with the popcorn until the popcorn is mostly covered.
Now pour the popcorn onto a cookie sheet covered with foil or a silpat liner.
Chop up 7-8 Donut Holes.
Sprinkle in the Donut Holes with the glazed popcorn.
Allow the Donut Popcorn to cool. Add some sprinkles!
Our family loves this popcorn so it has never lasted longer than a day at our house. This popcorn definitely tastes best right after it is made but will keep for a few days in an airtight container. The popcorn is a little chewier the next day because the popcorn absorbs some of the moisture from the doughnut glaze but it still tastes good.
Donut Popcorn. So yummy! So easy to make! It’s a fun and unique addition to our Sweet and Salty Popcorn series, we hope you like it!
