Flower Rice Krispie Treats

There are a lot of great things to be said about Rice Krispie Treats.  They are super yummy.  They are very easy to make. They are a good dessert to bring to a party or a pot-luck because nearly everybody I’ve ever met loves them.  But what I like most is how easy it is to be creative with them.   You can use cookie cutters to mold them into fun shapes.  You can use food coloring to turn them into a special holiday-themed treat.  And you can combine both of those ideas like we did with these adorable Flower Rice Krispie Treats that we made for Mother’s Day.

How to Make Flower Rice Krispie Treats

Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Cereal
  • Kraft Mini Marshmallows
  • Butter
  • Food Coloring
  • M&M’s
  • Two sizes of flower cookie cutters

Making the rice krispie treats

For the first batch of Rice Krispie Treats you will need 6 tablespoons of butter, 6 cups of marshmallows and 6 cups of Rice Krispies.   Melt the butter in a large pan on medium heat.  Add the marshmallows and stir until melted.  Turn off the heat and add the Rice Krispies and gently stir until they are completely covered with the melted marshmallow mixture.

Pour Rice Krispie mixture onto a greased cookie sheet

Pour the Rice Krispie mixture onto a buttered cookie sheet.

Mold Rice Krispie mixture into cookie sheet

Use a buttered spatula (or your fingers as I did) to mold the Rice Krispie mixture into the cookie sheet.   Let it set until cooled.

Cut-out with cookie cutter

Once cooled, use a flower shaped cookie cutter to cut-out the base for the Flower Rice Krispie Treats.  (We got this cookie cutter set at Michaels.)

What to do with remanents

You’ll have left-over Rice Krispie Treats after you are done with the cookie cutter.  You can do one of two things: let your loved ones eat these pieces …

Smush together remanents

or do what I did and use your fingers to smush together the sticky remnants and cut out more flowers.

Blue batch for center flower

For the center flower, you’ll need a second batch of Rice Krispie Treats.  For this batch you’ll need 3 tablespoons of butter, 3 cups of marshmallows and 3 cups of Rice Krispies.  And some food coloring.  We used teal.  Add the food coloring to the melted marshmallows BEFORE you add the Rice Krispies.  You’ll get better coverage that way.

Cut out small flowers

After this batch has cooled, use a smaller flower cookie cutter to make the center of the Flower Rice Krispie Treats.

Combine Flower Rice Krispie Treats

Combine the two sizes of flower cut-outs.  We thought we might need to attach them with a little bit of icing but we didn’t need to do that.  The two flowers stuck together just fine on their own.

Add M&M's for flower center

Finish with an M&M for the flower center.

Finished Flower Rice Krispie Treats

And that is all there is to it.  So easy.  So fun. So pretty.  They look lovely on a plate but are also cute on a cake pop stick as a lollipop treat!
