These Cookie Monster Cupcakes for a Birthday Party or Sesame Street Party are so adorable and so easy to make. The kids are going to love them!
Our Cookie Monster Cupcakes were so adorable and so much fun to make. We have all the detailed instructions below in case you want to make them for your own Sesame Street Birthday Party.
Ingredients You Will Need
How to Make the Cupcakes
Step 1: Make a batch of cupcakes. You can use a cake box mix, we have all the instructions you’ll need to make them taste just like homemade right here. Or you can make them from scratch with our yummy Homemade Chocolate Cupcakes recipe. We used chocolate cupcakes but Vanilla Cupcakes would taste great too.
How to Make the Frosting
Step 2: The key to these delicious cupcakes is our Best Buttercream Frosting recipe. It is light and creamy and buttery and super delicious! You will find the recipe and directions here. One batch of frosting will be enough to frost approximately 16 cupcakes.
Step 3: Tint the frosting Cookie Monster Blue, we used 5 drops of Blue Wilton Color Right Food Coloring to get this bright shade of blue.
How to Decorate the Cupcakes
Step 4: Make sure the cupcake has completely cooled.
Step 5: Next, apply a thin layer of Blue Buttercream Frosting.
Step 6: Cookie Monster’s fur was created with Blue Buttercream Frosting using a Wilton Frosting Tip #233. Fill the entire cupcake top with “Elmo Fur”.
Step 7: For Cookie Monster’s eyes, place two White Candy Melts eyes with the flat side of the melt facing up.
Step 8: We tried a lot of different cookies before settling on the Mini Chips Ahoy Cookies for Cookie Monster’s mouth. We cut about 1/3 of the cookie off so it would stick better onto the top of the Cookie Monster Cupcake. Use a knife to cut a small slit, the approximate size of the mini Chips Ahoy cookie, where you want the Cookie Monsters’ mouth to be. Stick the Chips Ahoy cookie into the frosting to represent the Cookie Monsters’ mouth.
Step 9: Finally, use the Black Icing to create Cookie Monster’s eyeballs in the middle of the White Candy Melts. Don’t forget to make them offset a bit to capture Cookie’s fun googly eyes.
