Step 1: Make a half-batch of our The Best Chocolate Sugar Cookie Recipe.  This Chocolate Sugar Cookie dough is easy to work with, tastes great, and really holds its shape during the baking process.  You can find the recipe and detailed instructions on how to make the dough here.  We made a half-batch of our Best Chocolate Sugar Cookie Recipe and ended up with 100 mini cookies that were approximately 1 inch in size.

Chocolate Sugar cookie dough rolled out on a table with a rectangular cookie cutter and a rolling pin.

Step 2: We used a small rectangle cookie cutter to cut out our Christmas Chocolate Sugar Cookie Bites but you could also cut the dough into strips and then cut the strips into a rectangle present shape.

Steps 3-4: Bake in a 350-degree oven for 4-5 minutes.  Check on the cookies at the 4-minute mark, because they are so small you don’t want to overbake them.  Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting them.

Making the Buttercream Frosting

Step 4: Make a batch of our Best Buttercream Frosting Recipe.  We split this batch into three bowls.  One bowl with 2/3rds of the frosting and the rest of the frosting split into the other two bowls.  We colored one of the small batches green and the other small batch red. You can find our Christmas Frosting Food Coloring Guide here!
